It has been 4 months since i left London (used to stay in Birmingham but I spent my last few weeks in London). The places I miss the most are those wonderful indie markets that you could only find in London probably; the big, busy, strange, weird market that full of artists (or even normal people but strong sense in art). Camden Town, Brick lane; and Portobello the antique market is my favorite. Yes, I bought this iconic red bus toy home, and a set of wood made letterpress with my initials- M, A, D.

The imagery of Portobello is fading like water drops in my mind - like what I did with this piece of work, I miss that, I miss the rare summer in England and I miss whom I ever met in that sexy country.

The lyrics and vocals in Dying World were composed by Lauryn Gaet, a songwriter and performer based in Brussels, Belgium. Lauryn sent these to Factor23 in London, who composed and recorded the backing score.The video was conceived by Rodrigo Jazinski and Maze Design. It was filmed on location in London by Rodrigo with Renzo Vasquez, a Brazilian film director.

From a cartoon figure I drew for a friend, Rodrigo at couple of months ago, I then drew him an 'updated version' when he has got a moustache. It was initially just for fun - Richard was kidding on Rodrigo on his moustache-look, demostrating Rod's flirting on a black evil cat on a vintage solo sofa in a pub @ Bricklane. With my extremely enjoying mood in the last 3 weeks in London, I drew Renzo, Richard and myself too, with everyone's holding a pet! Few months ago I was requested by CW to do an illustration for a Pro Bono campaign - by local MYCAT (Malaysian Conservation Alliance for Tigers). Initially I wasn't believe that Malaysian eat tiger meat. Was that really common? As I have never seen it in any restaurant that I have ever been.

I love Marmite, and I still remember me and my housemate were deeply addicted to Marmite while we just arrived in England - we had rice with marmite, vegie with marmite, and the Walkers' crisps with Marmite. Incredible.

So on that Nov 2009, kind of my last week in London, I found this Marmite Pop Up Shop in Regent Street. The whole idea was a pretty pop art thing - it only opens for 3 weeks during the Christmas season. I spoke to the owner, he said this is nothing to do with the Marmite company, just an art form to make money.

Well, the table are repainted every week for people to draw or write on it. I drew my character - Rabbitopus.

The initial letters - FG were wiped out accross the middle, symbolizing its cleaning services.

A friend of mine who runs a computer repairing business in China Town (Birmingham) has asked me to make him a logo for their 2-year-old shop.

He and his wife are very nice people indeed, I would say, they give a professional services with their extremely friendly attitude to every single customer who walked in to their shop. For this, people getting to know them with recommendation instead of advertisement. Therefore I have suggested them to use a cute, lively character as their brand, to show their helpful, friendly services that actually attracted a lot of customers.

A branding project that started a year ago under the name of TheBigTable design, by Ryan Wang and me, this is one of the presented version done by me.

Yo San is an University of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine in Los Angeles, USA. The brief was to create a sub brand identity for its product lines.

Through emails and Skype conferences with the Yo San president (he then left the position), we studied the Yo San University current coporate identity and decided to remain the corporate colours and come out a new graphic with the concept of traditional chinese medicine: acupuncture point at human body.

The logo visual simply includes the concept of body balancing by points and lines. Correctitude, Appropriate, Decent and Positive that leads to a healthy life.

This is a set of extended identity system developed from one of my project - "Banana Academy of Art-Brand Identity". By mixture of bananas with other fruits/elements, it came out some interesting & fresh results. The idea itselfs express the attitude of creative, imagination & being fun, which is the motto of Banana Academy of Art: art education should be "organic", fun and limitless, - we do not have "banana+apple" in the reality, but we could always create it in our imagination.

Brief:

The client wants the new logo to be able to presentthe zoo and the castle at the same time as it is themain attraction. Client also wants to mention onLemur which related to their major weekend activity.Solution:We linked the tail of lemur to a outline shape ofa castle. It combined the message as oneincorporate symbol without creating any confusing.

This is a group project done by 2 teams of 8 people from BA visual communication and MA design management in BIAD. Design management team get us the client and providing us the brief, doing the presentation finally, and we (BA visual communication) brainstorm and design a solution for them. Four of our team are: Toni Kim, Sophie, Nick and me. I really love the brilliant idea of making the Lemur's tail as a shape of castle which perfectly represented both attaction of the zoo, THANKS to everyone in the team, I think we did great, didn't we?

[Identity] - KFC new ID

KFC launched its new ID in April 2007 all over the world. The modernized Colonel icon were done by Landor Associate US. I am very glad to have the chance to be the main designer taking over all the application jobs.

The ID jobs took about three months for more than 40 packagings in different sizes, signages, promotional items, advertising, local signature bar, trucks and vans, TVC..etc. We were facing a lot of problems during the works as the CI manual came parts by parts, briefs changing, miscommunication, fonts problems, regional problems. All these has gained me a lot of experiences. I would say, a very good and powerful exercise in my design career, espacially in Corporate Identity.

The styling applied on all the packaging was a preset by the Landor, it used a lot of words describing the foods/product of KFC, for examples: Tasty, Delicious. My head of design, Mr Eric Hor, trained me a lot on typo sense in this jobs, which I would like to say Thank you to him.

To be honest, I love the new colors of the new ID - black and maroon, I think it looks very American and more adult. The only question on my mind to the logo was the three stripes - looks alike Adidas and I had read through the description of the logo, it does not mean to anything - so why?

Most of the people prefer the previous Colonel logo, they said that was looked younger and more tasty. Friendly is their first impression to the apron which Colonel wearing in the new ID but according to the Bible ( the CI manual), the apron represents Colonel as a chef.

KFC is not the only brand to have rebranding recently. There are a lot brands are changing its ID such as Baskin Robbins, McDonald's (they're changing slowly) and ToysRus. Most of the rebranding projects was criticized by the public or professional. Whether they succeed or not, let's watching.

KFC is always innovative in its products so as different campaigns and promotions are being launched frequantly. Different mastheads needed for each campaigns. These are some selected mastheads I have done for KFC so far.

I wouldn't say they are excellent enough but I learnt day by day in creating masthead. A great sense of typo, typeface, shapes and balancing are needed. These made a big motivation for me to choose to major in Typo and Corporate Identity now in my degree.

At the same time KFC launching new ID, Pepsi launching its HUGE campaign as well.
This campaign basically contains three main designs as a series: DJ, Emoticon and Travel. It coveraged billboard, train, TVC, cans packaging, vending machine, litebox posters, ambient media..etc. which I think is the biggest and costful campaign (not including KFC ID) in the year of 2007 in Malaysia.

The 7up (Pepsi co.) comes out a new product - isotonic drink.
At first we worked on a few names - Fidoiso, 7up Sport, Revive, Storm, Isoblast, BlastUp, Aqua Plus..etc and we came out more than 50 visuals in total.

Ends up the clients decided to use the design from Australia (Pepsi has its own branding agency located in Aus.) for some issues.

- Which is kinda disappointed me but I was very much enjoying the progress indeed, because a packaging always long lasting in the market compare to advertisement.

I use wood brown as a background color as to match the wood material in the shop interior.
Futura typeface is chosen because of its sharp apex on the alphabet and it has a longer ascendar which contains pleasing and graceful attitude but doesn't lose its stability and elegancy.
I'm glad indeed to hear that the clients were very satisfy with this creation, which would be a great encouragement for me.

I don't even know how to draw a rat before these. By the way, I never know this experience and skill would help so much in my design career now. I pretty appreciate it.

This is a graffitti train for M&M's that we propose to client. We propose four ideas in total, client doesn't buy this but this is the one we like the most. Client actually approved it in the first 3 rounds. It's wasted that this idea was being stopped in the middle as the client thinks graffitti doesn't bring out their brand's benefits. I gain a lot from this task from creating idea, design till the stage of FA. Dasein Academy publishes an internal newsletter every new semester. Now the 3rd issue is coming soon. I was being asked to design 13 background for the entire newsletter by using the element of crop circle. For me, crop cicle is kinda extraordinary wisdom, mistery and powerful thing. I'd say, I really love this project very much indeed. I learned extra knowledge because of the researching and discussion, and I love these patterns too! The layout of the cover designed by Mr. SooManHeng, who came out the concept of using crop cicle for this newsletter. I hope the reader will like it.

This logo is created for a series of self-promotion posters. It is combined by a Chinese character '田' with a graphic of hear-shape and indirectly forms the Chinese charater '思', which means 'think' in English. These series of posters are made to inspire people to think deeper from their soul but not from their eyes.

By the way, I done these posters as a souvenior and self-promotion to Mr. Benny(Au Tak-Shing) when I visited his studio, Amazing angle in Kowloon, HK. It's a very valuable experience that i gain a lot from the chats and sharing from Benny. " How far we can go and how good we can do, is not about how much your clients require on you, yet is how you require on yourself." Benny said. This quote really inspired me a lot and made me desire on doing better.

This is one of my favourite Chinese poster series which about right and wrong.
I submitted to International Kan Tai-Keung Awards 2005 and be the only Malaysian who won into the winning list.

People use a telescope as a tool to view further or to search something. The lenses of the telescope have been changed to printed pvc with the images of me holding a card, delivering the message to the Creative Director who is looking for a creative: "Look no futher, call 012-xxxxxxx for an art based creative".

Having a tea and chatting in mamak stall become a social cutlure in Malaysia, we called it 'YumCha' in Cantonese. It plays a joke on this culture with quips. People are talking crap and bullshit and drink at the same time. They have a drink in order to spend time. The T-shirt show a stomach full of 'bullshit', seems like they drink the crap in. And also the 2nd version which is a bullshit brain.

It's an T-shirt design competition named 'Life is a bitch'. The poster shows a story of 'Yue Fei' but changing the words in his back to 'Life's a bitch'. 'Yue Fei' is a hero in Chinese Legend who faithful to his emperor but innocently killed by the King. In the original story, YueFei's mother tattoos four chinese characters at his back so that he'd never forget: ' JingZhongBaoGuo' which means to be loyal to the country. This poster plays a twist, now his mother is tattoos 'Life is a bitch' at his back. A sound to sue the unfair fate, isn't that life's always a bitch?

A graffitti work by a group of five including me as a leader.

A lot of rules that we have to follow in our daily life, isn't it? Everything has its own rules, and looks boring. People may hate it but we'd never change it because the world needs a rule and laws. The only thing we could do is using our creativity to imagine it's a fun game.

This piece of work is now hanging on the wall of Dasein's multimedia room. It's not getting into the top5 winning list but Mr. Din likes the fish in the toilet bowl...we're like the fish, we do not satisfy on our enviroment but we're unable to jump out from it. Isn't it a common sickness of majority people?

The calendar is printed on textured paper and enclosing a real clock. By the way, it doesn't win any entry but it's a good experience.

Just an untitled experimental design.. I love to use the combination of aqua blue, orange color and purple color. I get the sense from my own drawing for children books, which I found that these combination of colors always create a sweet feeling.

Annual report visual for Nike, a non-profit annual report in 2 colors printing. Orange is a sport color. For nike supporter, nike shoes always the best fit for your foot by its extreme technology and profession, and enhance your performence. The concept pages of the annual report showing a human's feet anatomy, and being fitted by nike shoes. It created a feeling alike 'Nike is created because of you.'

Annual report visual for KLIA. The airport gives a global home's feeling, people who are travelling the countries over the world, may need a comfortable place to rest, and the airport is like their global home. They can enjoy listening to music, sitting on sofa, enjoying the wash room as their home. As a visual, the photos are consider major touch-up. The best experience of this project is, I went to KLIA and shoot the picture by myself (for concept pages), and people were looking at me when i shooting on them...haha~

When people ask you about silence and noise, what do you think about instead of sound?
This book is starting with a question: "What do you think about Silence and Noise?".
Is silence about religion calming?Is noise about violence and crime?

The book is trying to inspire people to think deeper about life and social by the topic 'silence' and 'noise'. It's mostly hand-drew illustration on chinese ink paper and newspaper, which created a very surprised effect-especially when poster color painted on it.

'Release' is a monthly free magazine about conceptual graphic design in a very local view, a great and a very new concept by Mr. Herbie and his team, it was planned to be issued by Dasein Academy. We're asking to explore the ideas and design base on 'Release' concept. These are the cover of issue#1 and issue#2 (3 spot colors printing in A3 size format). I bet you familiar with these bus ticket and RGB pattern from channel TV2 if you're a Malaysian.

How to speak like a Malaysian:
method#A: adding the 'L-A-H' behind the sentence to make your sentence become more lively.
method#B: adding the 'M-A-H' behind the sentence will make people happier.
method#C: adding the 'M-E-H' behind the sentence to make your sentence more powerful.

Malaysia is basically very 'rojak' in its culture. One of the unique style of Malaysian spoken english, is mixed with other languages' phrase. This is an instruction about how to speak Malaysian's english.

Another project which titled "All Malaysian, Unite". Ideas brainstormed by a team of BK, CK, OnnCai and me. When we are doing this project, we keep analysis on the word ' unite' . We emphasize on 'we are one', to create a feeling that ' we never be separated, we born as same, together, fair.' That's actually a hiding sign in the graphic, the begining part of the shadow is a combination of three representative color of the major races in M'sia: red, green and purple; and all the colors were merged as one at the end. Using outline drawing is a good way to avoid painting the skin color.

The first project that I done in my first semester in art college. A book created by four youngster, CheeKeong, KokWang, BoonKean and Me. This book is using a casual way to describe about our childhood's memory such as: yummy snacks (which hardly found in the market anymore), kerosakan telefon awam(broken public phone can be found everywhere when we do not have our own handphone yet), the RGB pattern screen of channel TV2(when we do not have an Astro), and our familiar games and characters: super mario, street fighter, ninja turtle...etc. It's definitely about what we remember in our mind. A fun project with fun memory.
